At the end of every term Water Babies runs a photo shoot in your area. We’re not just talking about some point ‘n’ shoot, see-what-you-get, happy snappy kind of thing. Over the years we’ve invested many, many months – and quite a bit of money – in making our photography truly world class. We have an amazing in-house team of underwater photographers, all professional and many award-winning. And we’ve designed a bespoke underwater studio, with all the kit and caboodle needed to get the very best shot of your little one swimming underwater.
The person who will swim your baby in front of the camera for you is not only an experienced Water Babies instructor. They’ve also gone through an extensive specialist training course to ensure they’re fully prepared for all the nuances of placing babies in front of the camera underwater (an entire profession in itself!). Again, this goes a long way to meaning we get the shot virtually every time.
Usually parents attend their first shoot at the end of the first ten weeks and it’s generally best to come along when your baby is still less than ten months. By the end of their first term the babies will have had time to build up their stamina and have plenty of experience of going underwater – and they won’t be as quick (and therefore harder to focus on) as they are when they get bigger!

On the day your baby will generally do a maximum of three submersions, as long as they (and you) are entirely happy about it. We consider this to be well within the boundaries of most babies and toddlers’ comfort zones – and, as always, your child’s happiness and well-being must come first. And because we shoot digitally, each submersion gives you between one and three images to choose from (meaning up to nine in total). Our aim is to make it a fun experience for both of you, based upon activities from your normal lessons with the photography carefully interwoven. We’ve found this reassuring familiarity to be the best way of ensuring you and your baby can relax and enjoy the event.
Over the years we’ve taken literally hundreds of thousands of photos. And by now, to be frank, we’re pretty good at it! So much so that it’s not really a question of ‘Will you get a shot?’, but whether you’ll be able to select from all your choices.
