Early swimming may ward off future breathing complaints such as asthma. Exercise improves bronchial activity and the warm, moist air is less irritating to the lungs. The course has also proved excellent for children in hip harnesses and others with cystic fibrosis or brain damage.
Again, the course is ideal for teaching babies with Downs Syndrome or Cerebral Palsy as it helps improve muscle development and co-ordination. The Downs Syndrome Association recommends swimming as one of the best activities for babies.
In terms of our parents/carers, we’ve had plenty of water phobic parents (and grandparents) attending our classes. One lady gained so much confidence from coming with her son that she then learnt to swim.
Generally we’d ask that, in terms of any special needs, you check with your doctor first that it’s ok to come swimming and then we’ll do everything we can to accommodate you and your child on our course.
